Hi, I’m Sam.

As a child, I was full of opinions that weren’t always easy to share, so I wrote them down instead. When I was five my mother passed away, and my writing grew from a way to sort things out to a necessary therapy.

I forged my passion into a career, earning a degree in magazine journalism from Kent State University, writing and editing for several print and online publications through the years.

Then in 2018 I became a mother, and — not to be dramatic — but, literally everything changed. A desire grew in me to reconnect with my own mother. To understand the purpose behind longing and healing (and how it ripples through generations in families).

I took a deep dive into spiritual texts, psychology, and the “self help” world — compounded in 2020 by the global quarantine and hours at home with my toddler son, where there was little else to do but read, journal, and unpack it all.

That period in my life led me to write a children’s book: “The Light Inside Your Heart.” It was the first of many projects to come alive through my re-awakened creativity. The second was “The Doula Diaries,” a monthly journal for women, which blends my eye for stories that connect communities with my earned perspective among the wise and evolving women of the world— the women I call “doulas.”

Have a read, stay if you’re intrigued, and comment to stay in touch.

Big love,

—Sam
